Day 27 (lock down)
Sunday 19th April - bike ***** - Felixstowe circuit – Sunny but windy.
It was a perfect day to go windsurfing today at The Dip, Felixstowe with at
least two more days to come which is pretty tough on all the local
windsurfers who for the most part are complying to the RNLI to stay off the
water as not to put strain on the NHS etc if you get into trouble! With it
being so windy it is not the best conditions to get out on our bikes but
because you had wall to wall sunshine it was hard to resist getting out
into the lovely Suffolk countryside! So, with a flask made and a couple of
homemade savoury muffins we set off a little late for us around 9.30! My
plan was to try and find some paths/tracks we haven’t been on before
which is challenging as we have pretty much covered most of the local
routes in the last few weeks! Our aim because of the breeze is to make the
most of the sheltered paths near Trimley/Levington way We take the
road/footpath coming out by Mc Donald’s and through the very quiet docks
to the level crossings and up past the seat with views over the docks! Back
up Cordy’s Lane and across the fields still full of pretty white
blackthorn blossom to met our tree lined path. We spot our first group of
deer relaxing in a field with great views down to the River Orwell. We meet
fellow windsurfer Dean Gatling out on his bike and stop for a chat before
ending up back at the fishing lakes at the back of Goslings farm where we
stop and have our flask at fishing swim 11 :) It was an idyllic spot with
the sun coming through the vibrant green leaves with two buzzards above and
loads of birds in the trees too including Long tailed tits, Black caps and
best of all a Sparrow hawk! We have a nice chat with a local dog walker
whose fat Labrador had great fun retrieving his log from the water! We take
a different route to Morston Hall actually saw a Great spotted woodpecker;
we have heard them on most of our rides but this is the first we have seen!
Instead of crossing the railway crossing we followed to dirt road which
runs by the railway track towards Trimley spotting another small herd of
deer including the white one:) Then its under the A 14 which seemed busier
than of late and along Candlet Lane to Gulpher Road and instead of going
through The Grove which had several people walking we continued to the
Cliff top car park. The road was busy with loads of people walking but the
carpark was very quiet which is good that people are not travelling in
their cars! The sea looked absolutely perfect for kiting/windsurfing but
there was no one out on the water which was pleasing to see! Then it was
home for a welcome sandwich in the garden before I do my back exercises.
Then when we go in, I check the cliff top webcam and very sadly there were
at least three out on the water getting us all a bad name! Let’s hope
this terrible virus can be beaten soon but I think we need a vaccine before
things can return to anything like normal!!!!
